www.WillhiteWeb.com: Hiking, climbing and travel
Do something exciting, challenging and extreamly rewarding. There is no adventure quite like leaving your home country to visit another. No matter how well you plan a trip, crazy things are bound to happen. Sometimes this will be stressful, other times a total surprise bonus. You will need to be flexible, especially if you are in another country speaking another language. You wil probably be out of your comfort zone but the rewards are great, historic sites, exotic locations, meeting people and cultures vastly different than yours. All this comes at a price, often just that…the cost. Foreign travel can be expensive, especially if your currency does not fair well with the local currency. Air travel and lodging can also eat away at your funds. I have found that unless foreign travel is a priority for you, your unlikely to plan a distant vacation, rather you will end up doing something more affordable, closer to home. Our theory (however distorted it seems) is to plan a trip we think we will be able to afford, book it, then hope the funds are available when the time comes. We have been reasonable with this, taking a big trip every other year with smaller ones in-between. As I explained in my background, sometimes we planned to sell our house to get the funds. Another theory of ours is never waiting for retirement to do a big trip. You will be old and slow seeing and doing half as much as if you went now. Not to mention, you might be dead before then! Plan your trip now, or a year from now. Start putting money aside. If you are actively planning and thinking about a future trip, your motivation will quickly bring that trip to the top of your agenda. Commit yourself. Our typical travel style is to see the top attractions. Although we do miss many sights, we see our time as extremely limited. As long as we see the top 5 sites of a city or area, we'll call it good and move on. These trip reports should represent the best or most well known sites of a city or region.
