Niteroi Ferry

One of the most inexpensive ways to get out and see a bit more of the Rio area is to purchase a one-way ticket to Niteroi. After the 25 minute ride, if you don't like the looks of Niteroi, stay on the boat and it will take you back to downtown Rio. Niteroi is a municipality of the state of Rio de Janeiro with around half a million residents. Niteroi is one of the richest cities in Brazil. Another way to Niteroi is the Ponte Rio-Niteroi Bridge. This 6 lane bridge is 9 miles long built from 1969 to 1974. Niteroi's main attraction is the Museu de Arte Contempornea de Niteri (Modern Art Museum). It looks like a space ship, designed by world famous architect Oscar Niemeyer.
