National History Museum

The National Historical Museum, created in 1922, is one of the most important museums in Brazil, consisting of over 287 thousand items. The museum is located at Calaboose Point inside the Santiago Fort complex, one of the strategic places for the defense of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The Ammunition Depot was added to the initial fortification. The National Museum has both permanent and temporary exhibitions, and promotes regularly several events such as courses, seminars, exhibiting videos and special activities for minors. The permanent exhibitions take you in a circuit dealing with the economic and social aspects of the history of Brazil.
