What is now designed as a viewpoint for adventurous tourists, Junior Point was once much more. This lookout site started as a shelter cabin built in 1931 just west of the summit. In 1933 an L-4 cabin was built on the rocky top. Panoramic images were taken the following year in 1934 from the roof. The cab lasted until destroyed in 1968. According to Kresek, Junior Point once served as a layover for pack trains headed toward Pyramid Lookout. Also, that it served for suppliers on snowshoes bound for Big Hill during AWS, serving as a halfway house all winter. There is a very nice campsite in the woods just below the summit with a picnic table and fire ring. This was a likely spot for the shelter cabin and camp before they built the lookout in 1933. Kresek highly recommends in his book to enjoy a sunset and sunrise from this camp at Junior Point summit.
