Lone Peak from Draper
Lone Peak is an awesome site, especially in winter. It climbs over 6,000 feet above the valley floor to a alpine world full of huge granite walls with ice and snow throughout much of the year. I'm still amazed whether I catch glimpses if this summit out my windows or while shopping at the local grocery store. It's amazing to be in it's upper reaches and look down on one million people.
Because of the western location of Lone Peak in the Wasatch, it can be seen well from both Salt Lake and Utah Counties. Of all the trips, this is one I forgot my camera. Lone must be wanting me to break my rule about never climbing the same mountain twice. I have yet to do so in Utah but I may have to make an exception for this one.

The Jacobs Ladder route is accessed from the Corner Canyon Road (2000 E 12600 S) in Draper. Follow Corner Canyon Road for 2.6 miles to the marked trailhead. The trail leaves from the east end of the parking area just before the gate.
The trail/road will climb to a small ridge to the north at about 6,000 feet. Turn right and climb this ridge east. The trail/road turns to a single track and around 7,000 feet where you'll hit Lone Rock area. Here, the Ghost Rock trail branches off to the east. Go left, straight up the hill. Climb steeply through brush and scrub oak. The trail will climb until reaching the old Draper Ridge trail at 9,200 feet in open scrub brush country. At this junction, turn right going east. Soon you'll pass some nice meadows. The trail then climbs toward the main cirque as things begin to look like the Sierra Nevada's. Once in the cirque, look for grassy ledges northwest of the summit to obtain the summit ridge. The final bit to the summit is class 3 with considerable exposure.
