With exactly 1,000 feet of prominence, Sky High is at the bottom of the 1PK prominence list. This mountain is located in an area not known for the scenic value. It's a hard sell to get anyone to go up this peak unless you like chasing prominence or just want to go somewhere new. Since it isn't far off Highway 6, why not give it a try next time your coming back form southeast Utah. I went up with the kids and sister-in-law. She got more than she bargained for as the kids were not up for walking at all (until going down). The route is mostly in the open with occasional shady sections. The entire route is on a ATV trail that could even be driven if you can get past the first few obstacles about 100 yards up the road. Even then, the road is being encroached by brush and water is creating a creek in the center of the road on many stretches. We saw a Moose and calf only 25 feet away while hiking.
There may be a better route on the south ridge...I noticed after getting home the trail that could even be a road. The summit area had a fence line and ranchers often like good access. See my map, I put both routes on it. As for the route we hiked. Just follow the main ATV road. Several spur roads do branch off (as shown on map) but keeping on the main trail takes you to the top. The first half of the hike isn't too steep, the second half is a much steeper road walk. It wouldn't be fun if wet. As the pictures show, views are ok, nothing spectacular. The map showed a benchmark. After quite a bit of searching, I could only find a witness benchmark. It pointed to an area that had some old wood that was once marking the site but no benchmark was found.
Sky High is off Highway 6, east of Thistle. The access road is on the other side of the highway from an old gas station that looks closed but maybe isn't? The road is called Dairy Fork Road (starts with a RR crossing). Take it for 2.8 miles (any car, good gravel). Park off side of road. If you hit a corral, your 50 feet beyond the starting point. The ATV/4WD road to the summit starts here.
