Glencoe Canyon Peak is an un-official name given to a highpoint on the Wasatch Back between Park City and Heber City. It is number 65 out of the 77 prominent peaks between I-80, I-40, I-15 & Highway 189. Glencoe makes for a good winter trip since there is good paved/plowed access to its base and a snow covered road to within a quarter mile of the summit. Snowmobilers occasionally use the route so a visit several days after a snowfall should allow you to walk a nice trail most of the way. I used both skis and snowshoes.
Walk or ski the road south to a cell tower that is visible from the pavement. A bit after the tower, the road crosses under some power lines and a road cuts off to the right (north). Follow this road as it climbs switchbacking up the east side of Hail Benchmark. It then wraps into Big Dutch Pete Hollow to a saddle between Hail and Glencoe. Follow the ridgeline west then northwest to the base of Glencoe. The final 400 foot climb at that point is steeper but nothing snowshoes can't handle.
From I-80 in Park City, take Highway 40 south toward towards Heber City. The third exit, exit 8 is the Mayflower exit. Turn right at the top of the off-ramp. You'll quickly come to a T intersection. Turn left (south) as the road parallels I-40. Follow this road to the end of the pavement where snowplowing stops. I do not know what summer access is like here.
