El Yunque National Forest

Home
Puerto Rico encourages every visitor to visit the rain forest, the only tropical rainforest in the National Park System. This tourist destination can get very crowded, well over a million visitors each year. If you've been to lots of rain forest before, you probably won't be too impressed but it is a nice half day activity to drive in and do a short hike or two. There is a visitors center with a movie, scenic roads, picnic areas and nature trails. Yokahu Tower is right off the roadway and a climb to its top has somewhat dramatic views. The trail to La Mina falls is the most popular trail in the forest since you can always jump in at the destination. During our visit, the road had been washed out but when open, driving to the end and hiking to Mt. Britton Lookout Tower is popular. They say on a clear day you can see both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
