Wheeler Mountain Shoulder

The Jim Creek Naval Station east of Arlington is a valley spanning antenna used to communicate with the submarines in the Pacific Ocean while submerged. It’s one of the most powerful transmitters in the world. Needless to say, getting access to this possible site will be difficult. The panoramic photos taken in 1935 pre-date the military use of the valley but not by much. For now, I wanted to share where I believe the panoramic photos were taken. The photos were taken at 8 feet above ground so that is 4 feet higher than the normal tripod used. So it seems there may have been something there or maybe the crew just used a tall stump. I personally think this site was used, possibly for a short period during logging for the antenna. Although the Naval Station was established in 1953, I have US ARMY aerial photos from 1944 that block out this area from view.
