Lake Boren Park

Lake Boren Park is a popular park destination located right off the busy Coal Creek Parkway, yet offers a quiet retreat for visitors, especially in the natural area along the lakeshore. But Lake Boren Park is not always quiet, the City of Newcastle holds community events there like Concerts in the Park, 4th of July, Moonlight Movies and Newcastle Days. When these activities are not the main event, others come to enjoy the paved walking paths, children's play area, picnic shelters, fishing dock, two tennis courts, a basketball court, and a sand volleyball court. The City of Newcastle also has a network of trails and Lake Boren Park is accessible on this trail system. A small sign just west of the lakefront marks the trail entrance as it heads north. Some nearby locations are the cemetery in 0.1 miles, Hazelwood Park in 0.8 miles, and Hazelwood School in 1.3 miles. There is also the Lake Boren Park Fuchsia Garden, offered by the Eastside Fuchsia Society who volunteered their time and energy to install the Lake Boren Park Fuchsia Garden. The garden serves three purposes. One: for the enjoyment of visitors to Lake Boren Park. Two: to educate and inform those who would like to grow fuchsias in the ground. Three: as a test garden to determine temperature and light conditions which fuchsias can be grown.
