Woodman Peak Dutch Mountain Utah
What a great outing climbing Dutch Mountain makes, especially if you can do it in the winter. Dutch Mountain is like the bow of a giant ship sailing in the ocean. When you reach the farthest point (the true summit) you have desert on three sides and you wish you could just sail off with a hang glider. I've climbed many peaks at the edge of the salt flats but this one is really seems to stand out there. Dutch Mountain is also the 89th most prominent peak in Utah so it gets a few visitors trying to accomplish the 100 prominence list. This route takes advantage of the higher elevation start and a bonus peak called Woodman but other access might be possible when all the snow is melted.

Its a straightforward route up to the summit of Woodman. Head for the more northern peak visible, where there is a saddle on it's west side. You could skip the extra climb up Woodman by traversing from the saddle around the north side (we did this on our return). Once past Woodman, there is a another large climb to the big false summit of Dutch. Once you get there, you see 3 more bumps along the ridgeline. The distant one is your summit. Luckly the terrain is easy with no brush to deal with. The second to last bump has a communication tower on it serviced by helicopter. The register on the top was placed recently showing only one party a year for the last 2 years.
