Baker Preserve Trail - Lummi Island

Home
Lummi Island isn't a hikers paradise but this trail is an interesting walk. The long narrow island has an old road running the length of it shortly below the crest, on a bench over the extremely rugged west side. Its a marvel of a road and the hiking trail takes advantage of it during the second half of the hike.

Access
Depart the ferry and turn left onto Nugent Road. After 0.6 miles, turn left onto Seacrest Drive. Follow Seacrest Drive for 1.7 miles to the preserve. The preserve is a bit hidden in the forest on the right side.
The trail is the steepest at the beginning as it climbs along side a neighborhood water source. At one mile, the trail reaches an old logging road that will take you over to the west side of the island. Then this road skirts the top of the steep hillside that drops a thousand timbered feet down to the water. The viewpoint is reached 0.6 miles after reaching the road. A bit further past the viewpoint is the end of the preserve and a gate. The trail continues, skirting the edge of the island though a nice forest until it hits some private lands near Lummi Peak.
