Washington Hiking
From North Bend take Ballarat Street north off North Bend Way in old North Bend. Follow this road becoming 108th St. then 428th Ave NE. At 4 miles is a left at a big Y, (go uphill). Follow the road 20 miles or so to the Lennox Creek Road #57. Take it 3.2 miles to the trailhead on the left.
Access:
Follow the Bear Creek Trail as it switchbacks up the hillside. In 0.5 miles is a crossing of Bear Creek with no bridge that might get your feet wet. After the first mile, the trail then opens out into the Bear Creek Valley and eases up. At two miles, at the first major switchback in the valley, the trail splits (c. 3,480 ft). The main trail goes back left up the hill to Bare Mountain. The trail going straight is an overgrown miners trail. Follow this trail bushwhacking some but the tread is there. Eventually enter the woods, cross a cool bridge and soon see some relics on the left. Shortly after is another trail split. Go left and follow the trail up to the campground. Follow a hard to follow trail out of the camp uphill toward the mines. When you reach the cable reel, look up to the tailings above. Go there and find a mine entrance. The tread to the lake starts just to the right of the mine entrance. This steep fisherman's trail tread will get you to Bear Lakes. Go around the west side of lake, then head uphill avoiding cliffs to gain the saddle west of Canoe Peak, then follow the narrow ridge up to the summit (class 2-3).
