Helen Mccabe State Park

Helen McCabe Park was established in 1967 but did not get the name of Helen McCabe until 1977. Helen McCabe was a professor of Recreation at Central Washington University. The Kittitas Environmental Education Network (KEEN) took on improving the park in 2008. They created fishing access points, the trail system and over 10,000 plants, trees, and grass. The 8-acre pond is the result of gravel excavation for the construction of Interstate 82. The 64-acre park was acquired by the Washington State Parks Department in 1973 but has not been developed into a typical State Park. Most people not fishing will likely just enjoy a stroll around the lake and then continue on by vehicle to other sights down the canyon.
