Black Mountains Highpoint
What to climb when it's February, the weather is bad and you have a 2 year old to deal with? Drive out to the Great Basin until you find a snowfree peak that has good access. I came across this peak inside the Little Sahara Recreation Area.
Maverick hiked most of way up this peak so I was pretty happy. He's really getting heavy to carry. Near the top, an apache helicoptor came over the ridge so close that I could see the pilots eyes looking at me. He turned around and flew by us again, then did a nose dive straight down.

I debated whether to hike over to the true summit or not. Since I had the time and the weather was ok, we dropped down and hiked up (just a few feet higher). I was very glad I did as I found a summit register that had not been signed since it was placed in Sept of 2001 by John Vitz.
