Central Oregon Peakbagging
Maverick and I spent 3 days in central Oregon peakbagging in July. The first of 12 peaks was Black Butte near the town of Sisters. This was a short hike to an active lookout.
Dozer and the lookout above
The lookout was staffed by a guy who lived here with his family. He had a kid about Mavericks age so he invited me up into the lookout.

View south to Bend Oregon
After Black Butte, I was driving south through Bend when someone on the radio said something about walking up Pilot Butte after work. I checked my map and saw an urban summit in the city limits of Bend. So I drove and got a great view of the town.

Next was Lava Butte, another drive up just off the highway.
The easy walk up to the summit.
Sitting on Lava Butte
We did this hike (no summit involved!) to some weak lava sites.

Another last minute drive up a peak, saw a sign from the highway, flipped a U-turn and drove up.
The lookout was locked but you could get near the top.
