Russian Butte
Landslide just past end of old road
The boulder field was a welcome sight after bushwacking up to here.
Things are looking good.
Getting icy but no problem with crampons on.
Looking down the route.
Michael went up the first real steep section of water ice. Not cool, I had him drop a rope from above since I hadn't sharpened my crampons in years. His were just sharpened.
The first steep section of ice was above Michaels helmet in this photo.
Wishing I had my second tool, and more than one ice screw, I went up along the rock. Not too far up, it turned to solid ice.
Another look at the route up. We bailed across the rocks to the trees. From there we continued up. Our route down was via the gully on the far right. This was much steeper than it appears.
Just after bailing to the trees.
Going down a different route. Still very icy but better.
Due to lack of gear, time and energy, I'll have to attempt this one another day...probably summer next time. We attempted this by walking the old road at the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Bridge to the base of the route. The road wasn't too bad but is overgrowing fast.
