Arizona Hiking
Cherum Peak is an easy hike off the main route between Las Vegas and the south rim of the Grand Canyon. If you want to get a break during this drive, this is an excellent peak to stretch the legs. With less than a 1,000 feet of gain in 2.5 miles, it can be done in a few hours.
Access:

Cherum Peak

Distance: 2.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 985 feet
Summit Elevation: 6,983 feet
Access: Good Gravel
The Route:
View of Cherum Peak from start of Big Wash Road
Cherum Peak Trailhead sign
Mineral Park Mine from the summit
View south along the Cerbat Mountains
View northwest from Cherum Peak
On the summit of Cherum Peak
View over Kingman to Hualapai Mountain
The Cherum Peak trail starts out in Pinyon Pine giving shade but eventually the vegetation becomes chaparral brush only. A steady climb leads to the ridge where views open up and a jeep road is encountered. Hike up the last mile and you are on the summit. No issues. Excellent reward for little effort unless it is summer time, must get hot.
About 20 miles north of Kingman on Highway 93 at milepost 51 is Big Wash Road. Follow Big Wash Road 13 miles past 2 BLM recreation areas (with camping), to the Cherum Peak trailhead on the left, just before the road drops toward Chloride. The road is usually in good condition, I did it in a rental car.
